Layered Textiles

Texture and layers play a big role in creating a cosy and chic interior space. For me a room looks completely naked without some elegant or natural fabrics that create a homely feel in any room of the home. This summer’s hottest trend is LAYERED TEXILES that can be used to create areas of colour, texture and depth within your chosen room. You can choose to layer complimentary colours and fabrics or create a contrasting visual finish with a mix and match of colours and patterns within your room.

For a modern cosy feel that works really well in Nordic inspired home interiors. You can create layers of textiles by teaming simple linen or cotton upholstered sofa or armchair with a layered scattering of grey natural linen cushions, grey faux fur cushions and Scandinavian patterned designs that will create a focal point within your room. You could also create a sleek and minimal layered effect by selecting some simple white bedding in plain, quilted or textured finishes and layer with white faux fur throws and cushions and mohair designs that can be used to create a mix and match of textural finishes in simple and clean colour schemes.

If you prefer a more luxurious and opulent style of interior design, then why not select textiles such as velvet and satin to achieve this layered look. A pair of heavy velvet curtains in a rich colour palette of emerald green, royal blue or crimson red will look great with a backing of black satin to create a mix of colours and fabrics that will create depth on a window area. You could also transfer this style to your seating areas by using deep and rich coloured velvet to upholster a sofa, armchair or classic chaise lounge and then create a scatter back of cushions featuring in velvet and satin fabrics with detailed embroidery or flocked patterns that will create visual detail within the room. If you wish to add depth to your bedroom interior, then select some sating bedding and include a quilted satin throw and some satin cushions with button effect detailing in one simple colour that will create a cosy space in which to relax.

Moroccan interior design is filled with clashing colours and patterns across soft furnishings and upholstery and is a great way to add some colour to an otherwise neutral space. Update a neutral upholstered sofa with some satin, linen and flocked cushions in bold jewelled tones such as emerald, turquoise and fuchsia and include additional cushions and throws with tassels and beading for added depth. Select a bold and bright patterned bedding set featuring Moroccan or bohemian prints and include a bright yellow tufted throw and a mix and match of orange, yellow and red cushions in circular, square and bolster designs that will create a layered finish across your sleeping area.
