Colour Trend – Shadow

The colour of 2017 from Benjamin Moore is SHADOW; a rich, dark and dusky purple that will look amazing in both modern and traditional home interiors. The chalky yet opulent finish of this colour can be used on a feature wall or as an accent tone across your accessories and soft furnishing to create a rich and cosy finish in your home.

Colour Palette
For a classic and co-ordinating finish then partner shadow with a range of tonal purple hues ranging from dark aubergine through to soft pastel lilac to create a fresh ombre style effect in your chosen room. Shadow also looks wonderful with crisp white and soft greys for a classically elegant look that is light yet colourful. Botanical hues such as fern green, and fresh freesia look great with the dusky tones of shadow as well as bright magenta, lime and blue for a more rich and tropical design.

Cushions
Floral cushions will look great in a combination of garden inspired tones such as shadow, mint, lavender and lemon and will create visual detail along a plain upholstered sofa or bed spread for a delicate and feminine design. A more masculine and modern look cam be achieved with simple striped or chevron print cushions in crisp white, shadow, black and grey that can be partnered with a contemporary or retro sofa for added style. If you prefer a twist of classic and exotic interior design then opt for simple white and shadow cushions that feature intricate Moroccan or mandala print designs that will create a focal point within the room.

Upholstery
Coloured upholstery is set to be another big trend for 2017 and shadow is the perfect colour choice for those who wish to add colour in the room without opting for bold or neon shades. A chic ornately carved, French armchair will look fabulous with a simple cotton or satin shadow fabric that will create an opulent chateau style finish in the room. For a feminine, country cottage inspired design then why not upholster some chunky oak dining chairs or stools with a shadow coloured floral fabric that will create an eye-catching feature in even the plainest of rooms.

Accessories
For a deep and masculine finish in a shadow coloured home interior, opt for a selection of black accessories that will compliment the rich finish of the purple backdrop. If you wish to create a more light and fresh interior space then a selection of simple white ceramics will look great on a mantelpiece or sideboard and can be paired with soft grey photo frames and mirrors for a variation in tone and finish. For a simple and classic look then opt for cut glass vases and glassware that can be displayed in a traditional dresser or display cabinet to create a focal point in the room.

Furniture
White painted furniture makes the perfect partner for a shadow painted home interior as the light and bright finish will counteract the deep and rich wall colours, making it a perfect choice for smaller interior spaces. Soft grey painted furniture will also create a sense of space within the room and will provide a cosy country cottage ambiance in both modern and traditional homes. Classic oak furniture will work great with the colourful walls and accessories and its timeless appearance will provide homeliness and warmth within the home. Black painted furniture will create a bold feature in any room of the home but should be used sparingly to avoid the space looking dark or overcrowded.
