Colour Trend – Pistachio

As autumn sets in, colours start to become less vibrant and zesty and turn to more muted and earthen tones. The designer world is going nuts (pardon the pun) this season for the colourful yet subtle hues of PISTACHIO home interiors. This colour has been favoured in the interior design world for many years, from rich Edwardian mansions to modern 1980s homes.  Let’s take a look at how you can incorporate this cosy yet colourful trend into your current home interior.

Colour Palettes

The rich green tones of Pistachio work well with a wide range of colour partners to create a diverse array of interior styles. For a fresh and botanical feel then partner pistachio hues with lemon, lilac and cream for a garden inspired design that brings a sense of the outdoors, indoors on even the gloomiest of autumn days. For a subtle yet colourful home then select ice cream colour tones such as vanilla, pistachio,  pastel blues and pinks that look particularly striking in a bedroom or dressing room area. If you prefer a more classic or period style design then partner pistachio with rich cream, chocolate, taupe and grey for a refined and sophisticated look.

Cushions

A selection of pistachio cushions are a great way of adding a hint of colour to a plain or neutral interior space. A selection of vintage style linen cushions in classic rococo and brocade style designs will look fabulous in a rich cream, chocolate and pistachio colour scheme. These will look great on a French carved bed frame or classic upholstered sofa.  Floral cushions will look amazing with hints of pistachio, cream and duck egg blue and can feature roses, daisies and hydrangea for a classic look or more stylised leaf and twig designs for an elegant modern twist. If a retro style is more your thing, then opt for bold geometric prints and 1970s and 80s pattern in a simple white and pistachio colour scheme.

Upholstery

Shabby chic and vintage style furniture is still as popular as ever in the interior design world and pistachio coloured upholstery makes a perfect partner to this elegant yet rustic style of furniture. Cream or white painted stools or occasional chairs look great with a plain pistachio linen seat pad or for a more vintage style select floral patterns that make an amazing focal point when used on a classic sofas and armchairs. If you prefer a more glamorous and flamboyant finish then choose French gold leaf furniture items such as a dressing table chair or a chaise lounge and upholster with a pistachio coloured satin fabric for a hint of opulence and luxury.

Accessories

If you are a lover of vintage accessories and ornaments then this colour scheme is perfect for you as there are many retro and antique furniture items that compliment an elegant pistachio interior. Bakelite telephones and home wares often favoured this colour in the 1950s and 60s and there are still a wide range of original items available as well as fantastic replicas that can be found across the high street stores. I love this Electrohome fan that would look fabulous on a vintage desk or bedside cabinet. Dark wood items will also create a cosy vintage style or for a sense of period opulence select shimmering gold photo frames and candle sticks for a splash of regal luxury.  If you wish to create a more contemporary look then select crisp white or glossy black vases, bowls and ornaments that will contrast yet compliment the vintage tones of your backdrop.

Furniture

There are a wide variety of furniture styles that can be used to compliment a pistachio interior colour scheme. Period homes will look great with a partnership of pistachio walls and dark hardwood furniture that will give a cosy and refined interior ambiance. For a vintage style then select shabby chic style furniture items in cream, white or soft grey or alternatively choose funky retro shapes and designs for a more fun and contemporary look. If you wish to create a light and bright ambiance then opt for classic white painted furniture or for a pop of glamour and drama select eye-catching black or gold leaf furniture that will contrast with the soft green backdrop and create visual detail in the room.
