Christmas Gifts for the Home

We all seem to opt for the same Christmas presents every year. Slippers for granddad, perfume for mum, chocolates for auntie and sometimes our choices can seem a little repetitive. Why not break tradition this year and buy your friends and family members a household gift that will become a treasured feature in their home interior. With a wide range of home wares available this festive season, I have chosen five of my favourite presents (that I hope will be under my tree this Christmas).

Wine Racks

We all love a glass of fizz or a mulled wine at Christmas but while you may be taking advantage of all the wine case offers during December, where are you going to store it all? Wine racks are a great gift for the connoisseurs in your family as it provides them with an addition to their home that can be used all year round. If they love sleek and contemporary styles then opt for sophisticated brushed chrome, copper or black metal racks that will look great on a kitchen worktop. For a more traditional design select a chunky wooden wine rack that can be accommodated into a farmhouse style kitchen for a cosy and welcoming appearance.

Personalised Frames

Personalised framed artwork has become increasingly popular in 2016 and makes the perfect gift for the special people in your life. There are so many styles and designs available you really will be spoiled for choice. Celebrate a landmark Christmas with a ’new home’ or ‘babies first Christmas’ artwork or a special memory, quote or song lyric that is perfect for remembering important times you have shared with the gift receiver. Alternatively if you want to throw in a little comedy then opt for humorous framed quotes such as this fun Gin inspired frame (left) that has my best friend’s name written all over it!

Cushions

There are so many fabulous cushions available on the high street you can be sure to find a design to suit your friends or family members. For the animal lovers then why not opt for a cute woodland animal cushion that will create a warm ambiance in their chosen room or opt for a cushion featuring their favourite pet (pugs and kittens are always a hit)or a photo cushion for a fun personal touch. Quote cushions are also great as they are fun and stylish and can be used to capture the character of the recipient. If you are buying for couples then opt for fun designs that will look great on their bed, these ‘big spoon’ and ‘little spoon’ cushions are heading to my sister in law this year!

House Plants

For the green fingered among your friends and family then a stylish house plant could be thoughtful gift that will create some botanic beauty in their home interior. For a classic gift, opt for a large potted palm or umbrella tree that will take pride of place in the corner of the room or select more exotic orchids and lilies that can be used as a centrepiece on their dining table. If they require something a little more low maintenance then select some cacti and succulents that can be displayed in several small pots or a terrarium for added visual detail. Opt for pots that will co-ordinate with their home decor or on trend styles such as rose, gold, copper and brushed chrome.

Jewellery Boxes

None of us would turn our nose up at a sparkling jewellery gift this time of year, but what do you buy the girl who has everything? A jewellery box of course! Select classic leather or suede jewellery cases with varying drawers and storage areas for rings, necklaces and earrings. For more a more glamorous design then opt for a shimmering mirrored jewellery box that is perfect for storing any smaller jewellery items. You could also choose a jewellery tree that comes in a variety of sizes and styles that are cleverly designed for hanging necklaces to avoid them becoming tangled.
