The Art Deco period was a time of elegance and luxury in interior design. The Art Deco movement began in France in the 1920s and takes its name from the ‘Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes’. Art Deco spanned the entire world and was most popular between 1925 and 1949.  it was one of the most popular trends of the 20th century and can be easily adopted into both traditional and modern homes and is therefore a really versatile choice for an interior design style.  Art Deco accessories are perfect for creating a hint of luxury within your interior and they can be adopted into any room of the home. If you have an eye for antiques, then you can browse your local stores or markets as well as looking at online auction sights however there are some great reproduction items available on the high street that definitely won’t break the bank!

Art Deco accessories usually feature angular and geometric forms that bring together period style elegance and modern visual style.  Sunburst designs feature heavily across Art Deco accessories particularly with mirrors that can be used to create a focal point on a main feature wall. Zig zags and chevrons were also a popular pattern in Art Deco interior design and look great displayed across a variety of vases and ornaments to create visual areas of print in zoned areas of the room.  Black and gold was the key colour scheme of this period and can be used successfully across all accessories from wall art and ornaments to lighting and cushions.

Decadent finishes such as highly polished glass, metal and lacquer were a huge feature in Art Deco homes and create reflective surface areas that emphasise the opulence of this look. Brass and chrome were classic materials use in lighting and accessories and a combination of central ceiling pendants and wall mounted sconces were a classic design feature that work particularly well in rooms with alcove and recess areas. You can’t go wrong with luxurious accessories that ooze glamour and sophistication. Crystals, high shine finishes and expensive jade are looks that perfectly embody Art Deco style and create a flamboyant finish to ay room. Accessories from antiquity were very much a key feature of this time period. Egyptian sculptures and artwork worked extremely well with the rich metallic Art Deco colour schemes and Greek and Roman artwork could be readily seen on vases, wall art and crockery and could be displayed in scattered formations around the room.
