How to Create a Disco Inspired Interior

There is something completely uplifting and energising about disco music. Even if you have had the worst of days, throw on a little disco and watch as your cares flow away and your feet start tapping. A DISCO inspired interior design can have exactly the same effect on our emotions with bursts of bright colours and sparkling 1970s style glamour that will leave any room looking and feeling energised and funky.
No disco interior would be complete without a classic mirrored disco ball! These small but effective accessories can be used in a wide variety of ways to create glitter and glamour in your chosen room. The obvious way to include a disco ball is to hang it in a central position on the ceiling or place in a group formation above a bed, sofa, dining table or kitchen island for maximum visual impact. For a more innovative look then why not select a disco ball globe that can be placed on a bedside or side table or create a display of freestanding disco ball orbs that can be scattered around tables, mantelpieces or windowsill for a spectrum of refracted light.
If you want to stay in keeping with a disco ball theme then why not create a visually glamorous kitchen or bathroom with a selection of mirrored or multicoloured wall and floor tiles. For a shimmering and eye-catching finish, select small square, mirrored mosaic tiles and display on a backsplash area for a zoned visual finish or place on a single feature wall or flooring area for an all over glittering design. If you prefer a funkier look then select metallic or pearl tiles in classic disco colours such as yellow, blue red and green and display in small mosaic or large square and circle designs for a fun and contemporary finish.
Disco is all about colour and vibrancy and this should definitely be reflected in your upholstery and soft furnishings. Opt for modern or retro style chairs, stools and sofas and upholster in alternating neon colours for a mix and match design or a funky psychedelic fabric in eye-catching retro colours that will look amazing on a tub style sofa in a crisp white interior space. You can also include some metallic faux leather fabrics that will look particularly striking with chrome or black painted framework and partner with a classic shag pile rug in neutral chocolate or bold purple for a fun and eye-catching disco look.
Display an array of cushions on your bed or sofa featuring vibrant colour schemes in retro fabrics, geometric patterns or dance floor inspired chequerboard designs that can be co-ordinated or clashed with your other fabrics and furnishings. Why not include some shaggy faux fur, slogan, sequin or glittered cushions for a mix and match of classic disco designs. Neon lighting is also a must have choice for a disco inspired home and will look great as freestanding , alphabet box lights along a mantelpiece or sideboard or why not select a ‘disco’ or ‘dance’ slogan neon tube light that can be displayed on a main feature wall as a funky alternative to classic wall art.
You can stick to one style of furniture such as shimmering mirrored designs that will create a sense of space and light in the room and will provide all the glamour and sparkle that is associated with disco music. Opt for statement items such as large dining tables, coffee tables sideboards and TV cabinets for a truly eye-catching look. These items can also be mixed and matched with classic retro furniture in rich walnut and mahogany as well as clear glass or Perspex items for a modern designer finish. Don’t forget to include a vintage style record player for those all important disco tunes!
