Rugs and Mats

For me a room looks incomplete without a warm and cosy rug or mat that can create a real centrepiece in any room of the home. With such a wide variety of shapes and colours available across the high street you really are spoilt for choice when it comes to selecting the best option for your interior space. From traditional Persian designs to modern metallic shag pile rugs there are a plethora of styles to suit all homes.

If you have a traditional or period style home then a Turkish or Persian style woven rug will look great positioned in the centre of the room. This style of rug can be clashed against a tile effect Victorian carpet or an oak or dark mahogany floor for the ultimate in stately style. These styles of rug feature a variety of deep and jewelled colour tones and include woven patterns and embroidery as well as tasselled edging for added visual detail. If you are using your rug as a central feature then opt for a large rectangular ‘magic carpet’ style or an eye-catching circular design that will take pride of place in the centre of the room.

If you prefer a balance of classic elegance and modern style then why not opt for a stylish floral print rug featuring cool grey and pastel hues that will look fabulous teamed with co-ordinating cushions and curtains for a chic and feminine finish.  For a high end and glamorous feel then you could select a elegant monochrome rug featuring rococo style patterns for a period feel or striped or chevron patterns for a more contemporary interior finish. One of this year’s biggest trends is modern shag pile rugs that come in a wide variety of colours and finishes for a cosy and tactile feel.  Opt for soft and sumptuous tones such as grey, dusky pink and mauve that will look great with soft faux fur cushions or select some bold and bright hues or jet black designs with metallic strands and fibres.

Hallways are often an area of the home that we neglect but by selecting some stylish rugs and mats you can create a pop of colour and visual interest in even the smallest of areas. A long and thin corridor will look wonderful with a classic hallway runner that can be used to add warmth and also protect your flooring in such a high traffic area of the home. A large square hallway can be given a cosy and welcoming appearance with a large circular rug that will create a real feature in even the most neutral of entrance halls. Door mats are no longer the boring and functional items that they once were, they now feature an array of prints, patterns and colours or can feature some fun and quirky slogans if your wish to amuse your guests and visitors.
