Paper Vs Paint

It’s the age-old dilemma that will leave many of us scratching our heads when it comes to decorating our homes…Paint or Paper? It seems like across the years the battle between painted walls and wallpapered walls has swung both ways, with wallpaper falling out of favour during the early 2000s only to make a big comeback in the last few years. Some people love the burst of colour and pattern that can be created with wallpaper while others prefer the sleek and clean lines of simple painted walls…which side will you take in this interior battle?

Paint

Paint can be one of the most cost-effective ways to completely transform the look and feel of your home interior. With such a broad range of colours and finishes available across the high street there is a plethora of choice when it comes to choosing your favourite. You can even mix a specific colour to enable you to co-ordinate your painted walls with your soft furnishings and accessories to ensure a complimentary finish within your home. Selecting paint for your walls does not have to be a bland choice you can opt for bold and vibrant colours or even mix and match your tones across your accent walls to create a focal point within the room. You can also vary this look with different textures and finishes of paint. Matt and suede effect finishes will create a sophisticated feel in any room of the home while soft sheen, gloss and metallic paints provide an air of glamour and luxury that works particularly well in bedroom interiors. Paint is simple to apply and is time efficient for those who want a quick change with minimum fuss.

Paper

Wallpaper is a great way to create visual detail and pattern within your home interior and can bring an artistic flair to any room of the home. Some people see wallpapering as a time consuming and a somewhat skilled art but, it is quite a simple process. Very few people choose to wallpaper their entire room instead opting for a single feature wall, chimney breast or alcove area. Textured wallpapers are great for those who wish to create detail in their room without too much colour and they make a great finish on walls that are uneven (they hide a multitude of sins). Bold patterned wallpapers can make a fabulous feature on a main feature wall and can range from abstract geometric patterns, to elegant leaves or bright and eye-catching floral prints. Wallpapers with hints of metallic gold and silver are great for catching the light and creating luxurious illumination within your room. If you are new to wallpapering you could always opt for a ‘paste the wall’ option that makes it much easier to hang the paper and match any patterns or textures.

What side are you on? Or do you think that a balance of both make for a perfect home interior?
