Outback Interiors

As we move into the colder months Australians are moving into their warmer ones (we are not jealous right?) so why not inject some of that warmth and colour into your home interior as we move into autumn with a rich and cosy OUTBACK inspired interior design. This look brings together warm colour schemes and cultural accessories and patterns to create a bold yet laid back feel in any room of the home.

Select a natural colour scheme as your base colour with warm and rich undertones that will create cosiness within the room. Beige, sand and taupe colours will recreate the baked and scorched look of the outback while accents of rich red and terracotta will add a sunset style feel to your room.  Add bold aboriginal style accents of colour featuring bright yellow, blue and red that will add some bright vibrancy to your interior space. Chocolate and mocha tones also work well with this interior look and can be partnered with rich cream for a soft and relaxed design. Bold patterned aboriginal style wallpapers will look fabulous on a main feature wall and can be displayed in muted or bold colour schemes depending on your tastes. For a more fun and modern look in your chosen space then why not opt for a wall mural featuring an outback scene that will bring a sense of the outdoor landscape inside your home.

Add a selection of soft furnishings to your room that include a mix and match of colours and fabrics that will create visual detail and texture within your interior space. Opt for natural linen curtains in simple cream or burnt orange for a rustic feel that is still elegant and refined. Place some cushions along a seating or sleeping area featuring a variety of prints and patterns such as colourful tribal designs, plain linen and cotton or fun photographic designs featuring kangaroos, koalas and dingos. Team these with a rich and sumptuous rug or bedding set featuring a sunset colour scheme of red, orange and yellow that will create a focal point within your chosen room.

Opt for natural furniture materials such as rich mahogany and oak in chunky and rustic designs or opt for more laid back rattan wicker designs for a more bohemian style feel. If you can find any traditional aboriginal style carved furniture such as a side table, bedside or chest of drawers then mix and match these with your other items for an authentic outback style. Add some Kangaroo, koala or Uluru wall art, canvases or prints alongside traditional aboriginal ornaments, masks, and shields and of course you must include some didgeridoos that can be propped in the corner of a room, displayed along some shelving or mounted to a feature wall, chimney breast or alcove area as an alternative form of wall art. You can also display a variety of wooden framed photos, mirrors and vases within your room to add to the natural rusticity of this look.
