Mason Jar Ideas

Mason Jars…Yes we are still talking about them! These seemingly insignificant jars became a huge trend in 2015/2016 and were seen in every interior blog, magazine and TV show across the world. And while you may think that their appeal has now worn off you couldn’t be more wrong! Thousands upon thousands of these jars are purchased every day in the UK alone and we have come up with a few ideas on how you can use them to add style and elegance to your home interior.

  1. Lighting

Yes, you heard right! These little jars are perfect for providing ambient lighting in a living room, bedroom or an outside seating area. Fill the inside of your chosen jars with some clear or coloured, battery-powered fairy lights or tea lights and place in strategic positions around the room such as tables, mantelpieces or windowsills. You could also link the jars together with string or wire and hand along an outdoor fence or mount them as wall sconces above a bed, seating area or alcove. Decorate your jars with some flowers, lace or paint for added detail.

  1. Storage

Mason jars are ideally sized for storing an array of nik naks and utensils, ensuring that your home remains neat and clutter-free. For a stylish and glamorous idea then paint your mason jar in an opulent metallic paint or add a delicate lace overlay and fill with your favourite make-up brushes for an elegant and practical home accessory. If you have little ones in your home then, like me you may be fed up of finding pens, pencils and rubbers scattered around your home. Why not set up a designated craft area where they can store their stationary in colour co-ordinated jars for ease of use.

  1. Vases

If you are fed up of the same boring vases in your interior then why not swap then out for some homemade Mason jar vases that will create a focal point in your chosen room. For a classic shabby chic look then paint your mason jars in subtle pastel hues and partner with traditional English garden flowers for a delicate and feminine finish. If you prefer a more modern look then paint your mason jars in matt black or shimmering silver and include some simple white roses for a minimal yet elegant finish.

  1. Art Work

While they are certainly useful, Mason jars do not have to be used for just practical purposes. Why not use them to create areas of visual art in your chosen room by decorating them to co-ordinate with your interior space. For a soft and elegant, French-inspired look then paint your mason jars in antique white paint and add an overlay of intricate lace and French-inspired decoupage and finish with bows of twine for a rustic chateau finish. You can also use the jars as photo frames by wrapping a favourite photo around the inside of the jar and decorating with accessories such as shells (for holiday photos) flowers and confetti (for wedding photos) or Lego (for children’s pictures).
