How to Throw a Disney Villains Party

This weekend will see thousands of adults and children enjoying some fun and festive Halloween parties at their homes. If you are finding it difficult to find a theme for your party that is suitable for adults but not too scary for the children then why not try a fabulous DISNEY VILLAINS party that will create the perfect balance of spookiness and family fun.

Firstly decide whether to theme your party around a single villain or an array of characters and stories. If you select a mix and match then it will provide people with more choice for their costumes however by selecting a single character it will be easier to co-ordinate your decor and food. Opt for classic characters such as Maleficent, Ursula, the Evil Queen or Cruella and don’t forget to include male alternatives such as Hook, Jafar and Gaston for an even balance.

Decorate your table in the appropriate colour scheme for your character black and purple are key colour palettes for both Maleficent and Ursula and obviously go crazy with Dalmatian print and rich red for the evil Cruella De Vil. For a Captain Hook inspired table design then opt for pirate prints such as skulls, chests and boats. Tailor all of your plates, cups and glasses to reflect your chosen villain with designs such as Apple prints for the Evil Queen and black glass for Maleficent that will create a stylish table arrangement. Include decorations such as shells and octopus for Ursula, Dogs and faux fur items for Cruella and Parrots and Lamps for Jafar that will pay homage to each character.

Halloween is the perfect time to have fun with your food and drinks selection and it is simple to create food items that can be associated with your chosen Disney villain. I love these spooky ‘poisoned apples’ (left) that can be made simply by adding a dash of black and/or blue food colouring to your caramel before you dip your apples. These are great for an Evil Queen party and can be displayed alongside some white chocolate hearts that have been dyed with some red food colouring to reflect the snow white story.

For a classic Captain Hook inspired food selection then purchase some golden chocolate coins and take some old brown glass bottles with shabby style labels and skull straws and create a classic rum cocktail for the adults and some ginger ale or apple juice for the children.

Set up a craft table for the children where they can get creative with their ideas. Why not get them to create some ‘Wanted Posters’ for their favourite Disney villains and then use them as decorations around your room. They can also make bunting in their chosen villain’s colours, cardboard hooks (for the pirates) or villain masks that can be used in a photo booth style area of the party.

Another fun idea is to bake or buy some plain cupcakes and get the children to decorate them with some villain themed icing and decorations such as skulls, hearts, apples and glitter.

Make sure you have games that will appeal to guests of all ages (after all Halloween is not just for children, right?). For a Captain hook themed party you can create a cheap ‘ring toss’ game for the children by mounting some plastic pirate hooks to a large sheet of cardboard and letting the children take turns at throwing 5 hoops each (the winner can receive a chest of chocolate coins). For the adults why not prepare a Disney villains quiz and test their Disney knowledge. Choose random questions or centre them on a single Disney villain depending on your parties theme.
