How to Create an Arctic Interior

Winter is the perfect time of year to create a cosy and inviting ambiance in your home interior whilst still maintaining a crisp and frosted feel that reflects the outdoor climate. By combining textural fabrics, cool and cosy colour schemes and natural materials you can create an elegant ARCTIC inspired home that is luxurious and chic.

Texture plays a huge role in creating a cosy feel that reflects the frosted landscape of the arctic tundra. Furs are the perfect way to create depth and tonal colour in your home and can be used on cushions, throws and rugs to create a cosy space in which to relax. Opt for grey and white wolf style faux fur for a rich look that works wonderfully in grey or white painted interiors. Pure fluffy white rugs give the impression of soft snowy ground and will look wonderful on a natural wood floor or a deep pile grey carpet. You can also include some chunky knitted cushion covers or pouffes in co-ordinating colours to add a variation in texture that perfectly embodies the warmth of winter homes.
Keep your colour schemes as crisp and clean as possible to reflect the bright and frozen arctic glaciers. Crisp white can be paired with varying grey tones such as dove grey, sharkskin and pewter or cool blue hues such as ice blue, storm blue and duck egg for a fresh yet cosy look. For a more rich and traditional style then partner off white with rich cream, beige and biscuit tones that will create a cottage or chalet style feel that can be accented with pops of brighter colour for a modern take on this look.
Patterns and prints will create a focal point in zoned area of the home and this can be achieved easily with a wallpaper or wall mural, curtains or cushions to create visual style that works particularly well against a plain neutral backdrop. A large feature wall can be covered with an extensive wall mural featuring a frozen forest, tundra or glacier to create a striking feature in your chosen room. If you are opting for wallpaper then choose spindly winter tree patterns, quirky screen print trees or even a white or ice blue glitter that will create a glamorous ice palace feel to your room. Why not include some animal patterned cushions featuring guillemots, wolves, polar bears or arctic foxes that will create a cute and cosy look on a large sofa or white bed spread.
Opt for natural finishes on your furniture such as solid oak, white wash or weathered birch that will give a cosy and traditional finish in your chosen room. Choose chunky items such as coffee tables, dining tables and large bed frames that will form the focal point of your space. Accessorise your room with natural wooden storm lanterns with large pillar candles or fairy lights to create a zoned area of ambient light. Place large vases in the corner of your room and fill with twigs and branches that can be intertwined with lights as an alternative to a traditional floor lamp. Create visual style with candles, distressed photo frames and bowls filled with acorns, white fluffy pom poms and glittery baubles for a festive twist that can be enjoyed all season long.
