How to Create a Festival Inspired Interior

Festival season is well underway and as we wave goodbye to Glastonbury and Download and say hello to Reading, T in the Park and Bestival its time to bring some summery festival fun into our home decor and accessories. If you haven’t been lucky enough to bag yourself tickets to your favourite events why not bring the festival atmosphere to you with a fun and uplifting interior with a hint of bohemian charm.

Fabrics and upholstery are a great way of bringing a splash of summer colour and festival inspired prints into your home interior. If you enjoy the bold and vibrant tones of tropical inspired festival fabrics then select cushions, throws and bedding in classic bohemian floral prints and mix with modern palm tree, sunglasses and guitar print designs that will bring that laid back and chilled out ambiance into your home.

If you prefer a hippy chic style then opt for vintage tones such as terracotta, cream and brown and choose gypsy and tribal style patterns that will create a retro ‘Woodstock’ inspired interior where you can enjoy a laid back afternoon of music, drinks and laughter. Select traditional Persian and tribal print rugs that can be clashed or co-ordinated with your fabrics and upholstery for a chic and stylish summer look.

When selecting seating items for your festival inspired home opt for simple designs in eye-catching colours and prints and combine with natural materials that reflect outdoor living and warm summer evenings. I absolutely love these fabulous festival inspired deckchairs (left) that are perfect for throwing a summer party or BBQ as they can be easily moved from your outdoor space to your indoor space and can be folded out of the way when not in use.  Opt for natural wood and earthen tones for a vintage style look or choose white or pastel painted exteriors with bold, vibrant print upholstery for a bright and zesty finish.

If you prefer a more fun and traditional look then select a rattan basket hanging chair or a crochet style hammock that will look great in the corner of your living room area, accessorised with boho cushions and throws for a cosy and laid back atmosphere.

Festival inspired accessories will give that all important finish to your chosen decor and are a simple and cost effective way of adding a bohemian, summer feel to your current home interior. For a classic hippy inspired interior style then select retro dream catchers with bead and feather detailing and hang in group formations above a seating or dining area for an eye-catching visual finish.

For a more updated version of this design select natural rattan or white painted heart and star shaped ornaments and decorate with bold and colourful ribbons, beads or old festival wrist bands for a unique and personalised look. If you want to create a cosy campsite inspired feel then select bohemian and Moroccan style mosaic lanterns and illuminate with simple tea lights for a relaxing and atmospheric interior look.

Festivals provide the perfect occasion for friends and family to come together and let their hair down so what better way to replicate that feeling than with a fun and funky dinner party or BBQ that can be given a festival twist with a few simple and easy ideas. Send ticket style invitations to your guests featuring a ‘line up’ of events that will take place during the night and include a wrist band that should be worn on the night. Create a fabulous festival table setting with bold bohemian print plates, cups and glasses and create a centrepiece using a watering can or milk bottle filled with gorgeous wild flowers and daisies.

Add a grass print table cloth and bunting around your eating area and scatter church style candles around the room that are decorated with ears of corn, daisies and feathers. Create your very own main stage with simple wooden pallets,  boards  or hay bales decorated with fairy lights and let your guests battle it out with some festival karaoke featuring bands from this year’s festival line ups.
