Colour Trend – Sand

This time of year is all about finding colour schemes for your home that are cosy and rich and create a welcoming ambiance within your home. Forget magnolia and white; SAND colours are the latest trend for autumn/winter 2015 as they provide a sumptuous atmosphere whilst still maintaining a sense of space and light that is perfect for smaller home interiors. This creamy caramel blend works wonderfully with both classic and contemporary home designs to give a soft yet inviting finish.

Colour Palette

This subtle yet rich colour tone can be combined with both neutral and bold colour schemes to create a rich and diverse array of styles within your home interior. This gorgeous earthen colour will look fabulous with chalky white and pale vintage blue for a soft and feminine coastal look that works wonderfully in bedroom interior areas. For a richer Mediterranean style design then partner sand with mocha, terracotta and chocolate tones to give a cosy and rich interior style. If you wish to create a typically autumnal interior feel then pair sand with russet and burgundy or rich aubergine purple to give a welcoming and seasonal look that is perfect for curling up with a nice cup of tea.

Cushions

The neutrality of sandy colour tones makes them a perfect choice for your cushions as they can be partnered with both light and dark backdrops and upholstery. For a classic and sophisticated look then partner some sand colour cushions with pastel blues, antique white and cream and floral and botanical prints for a refined and elegant style. For a more seasonal feel then partner sand coloured cushions in soft velvet or knitted fabrics with warm burgundy, chocolate and cosy faux fur designs for a sumptuous and inviting interior space. If you prefer a more contemporary interior design then create a ranch style home that is bang on trend this season with sand and black chevron and Aztec style patterned cushions with hide and stag print designs that are visually striking and functional.

Upholstery

Neutral upholstery is favoured in a wide variety of interior styles due to its subtlety and versatility. The cosy and rich earthen tones look fabulous as a cosy sofa and can be paired with both modern and traditional decors. This colour works well on simple linen and knitted fabrics as well as leather and rich velvet for a more 70s style interior look. If you have a classic oak dining table then sand coloured, upholstered dining chairs will blend seamlessly with the rich golden tones of the wood and will create a cosy space to dine. Select sand coloured thick knitted fabrics and re-upholster a classic armchair and matching pouffe that will look fabulous nestled in the corner of a living room or bedroom interior.

Accessories

Sand coloured accessories are readily available on the high street but can sometimes fade into the background of a matching painted wall. To create a contrast in colour and tone then select some deep maroon, black or gold home accessories that will look great along a wooden mantle piece or sideboard area. Select a gold lamp base and choose and shade in a rich autumnal hue or an eye-catching tribal print design that looks great in a ranch style home interior. For an alternative to a traditional candle holder or vase then fill a clear glass storm jar with sand to around half way and then add a large church candle or a selection of succulents for a stylish and natural finish.

Furniture

There is a vast selection of furniture colours and styles that will look wonderful nestled in a sand coloured interior decor. The obvious choice is a range of solid oak furniture that will fully compliment the golden, caramel tones of the sandy backdrop and will give a classic cosiness to any room of the home. For a more country cottage style then select a range of cream painted furniture items that will create a bright and uplifting feel with soft rustic charm. If you prefer a more dramatic feel then select a statement furniture item in a deep black or glistening gold finish that will take centre stage against the rich yet neutral sand coloured decor.
