Colour Trend – Pesto

Some fresh egg pasta, stirred into rich olive oil, garlic, basil, parmesan and pine nuts…no I haven’t branched into cookery lessons, I’m simply envisaging the bright and mouth-watering tones of PESTO and how it can be used to create a pop of fresh summertime colour in your home interior. This sophisticated green hue will accentuate both modern and traditional interior designs to give a chic and refined feel in your home.

Colour Palette

For a fresh interior design, use pesto alongside a varying array of green hues such as sage, mint, lime and tarragon for a rich and tonal palette that works well with bright, crisp white or cosy cream for a classic interior finish. If you wish to create a chic, botanical ambiance in your chosen room then partner pesto with soft peach, coral, lilac and pink for a feminine interior design that brings the elegance of a British summer garden from the outdoors, indoors. A more masculine look can be achieved by partnering rich pesto green with black, charcoal and muted grey tones for a luxurious and sophisticated look that works extremely well in traditional period properties and modern designer inspired homes.

Cushions

Bright and crisp white looks great alongside a sumptuous pesto colour scheme and will make a great partnership on you cushions and soft furnishings. A slick contemporary look can be achieved with a selection of white, black and pesto cushions in stylish geometric patterns or stripes and chevrons that will create a visual detail on a plain sofa or bed. For a more refined and delicate look then opt for classic cream and pesto cushions in cotton or satin, featuring floral or foliage prints and patterns in soft dusky tones such peach, pink, mauve and lilac. If vintage and retro style is more your thing then select an array of bold and eye-catching, 1960s inspired cushions in subtle pesto, orange, yellow and chocolate brown colour tones.

Upholstery

Coloured upholstery is a huge trend for 2016 and is a great way of introducing a zoned area of colour into your interior space without the need for extensive or expensive redecoration. A simple chesterfield style armchair or sofa will look great in a plain pesto green cotton or linen upholstery and when partnered with oak frames and a cream painted backdrop will create a cosy yet stately feel in your chosen room. For a feminine addition of colour in your bedroom or dressing room area then upholster a curvaceous French carved, white painted, occasional chair in a pesto, peach and lilac floral upholstery and partner with a white carved dressing table for an elegant and glamorous finish.

Accessories

A pesto painted interior can be accessorised with a wide variety of items to create a striking visual finish. For a cosy and welcoming look then display a selection of cream ceramic vases, ornaments and accessories along a mantelpiece or windowsill area and accentuate with cut flower arrangements for a country cottage style look. A more contemporary look can be created with a selection of black and chrome mirrors, frames and candle holders for a perfect mix of modern and traditional design features. Wooden accessories will add to the natural beauty of a botanical interior design and perfectly complements the rich and tonal hues of a pesto painted feature wall.

Furniture

Solid oak furniture makes a perfect partner to a pesto interior colour scheme as it complements the muted and natural tones of the rich green hue and creates a warm and welcoming space in which to sit back and relax. Cream painted furniture will also create a rustic country cottage style with a hint of sophisticated femininity that will provide a sense of light illumination in smaller interior spaces. Elegant white painted furniture in a French style finish will add a splash of chateau style glamour to your home and creates a refined and chic ambiance in your home. For a more masculine finish to your pesto coloured room then include some black painted or black glass furniture items for a sleek and contemporary finish.
