Colour Trend – Pearl

Delicate and natural colour tones will create a light and airy ambiance in any home interior. Forget your brilliant white and magnolia; instead look to nature for plain and neutral colour tones that will create an air of sophistication that will not overpower the light and space within your home. This season has seen a huge rise in the popularity of PEARL interior colour schemes that showcase the illumination and subtle grey hues of this naturally elegant tone. The subtle hint of colour will look fabulous as a stand-alone hue or alongside a variety of complimentary tones for a chic and luxurious look.

Colour Palettes

This subtle colour choice is a perfect blend of rich cream and metallic grey that will look fabulous partnered with soft white for an elegant and illuminating interior look. For a more masculine take on this natural colour tone then select complimentary dark pewter and black for a glamorous and boutique interior finish. The natural tones of pearl will also look great alongside subtle pastel tones such as lilac, mauve and even taupe for a more delicate earthen look that works particularly well in bedroom areas.  If you wish to capture its maritime heritage then pair your chosen pearl hue with light blue and ocean tones for a fresh coastal interior design.

Cushions

For me no room is complete without a scattering of cushions that remove the sparseness from your interior space and create an area of relaxation and cosiness on a seating or sleeping area. Pearl coloured cushions are particularly versatile as they can be partnered with a vast range of other colours or used alone as a neutral yet textural feature. Select cosy earthen tones such as taupe, mink and pearl for a feminine a luxurious finish or scatter with pale colours such as lilac and blue for a pop of subtle colour and variation. For the ultimate in glamour and elegance then select metallic pearl cushions and pair them with deep grey and black cushions with beads, sequins, pearls and tassel embellishments for a classic Hollywood boutique style.

Upholstery

Classic white and cream upholstery may never go out of fashion however it can become a little tired and boring. Why not upholster a sofa or seating area with a luxurious pearl coloured fabric in metallic sateen or velvet for added opulence and flair. Choose French carved frames in white, grey or black that will compliment the lustrous finish and create a sense of traditional glamour in a living room or dining room space. If you love to create a flamboyant centrepiece in your bedroom then select a grand French carved bed frame with satin pearl fabric on the head and foot boards or for a more masculine take on the design select a classic chesterfield style bed and upholster with a pearl coloured linen fabric and finish with pearl insets instead of buttons for a truly luxurious design.

Accessories

Pearls make a great accessory in the home and can be easily added to your current home accessories for a sprinkling of rich and elegant glamour. Old pearl effect necklaces can be wrapped around the base of a church style candle for a simple yet refined appearance that looks great in a bedroom or on a dining table to compliment a romantic meal for two. Alternatively fill some storm jars with decorative pearls and add fairy lights that will accentuate their shimmering nature and make a great alternative to a classic table lamp. For a more central focal point then select a chandelier with simple pearlescent bead droplets or this fabulous mother of pearl light fitting (right) that will look fabulous poised in a hallway or landing or hung above a sofa or dining table for the ultimate in opulent glamour.

Furniture

The neutral tones of pearl mean that it can be partnered with a wide variety of furniture styles and colours for a diverse look and finish. For a cosy cottage look then partner with rich grey painted furniture for a co-ordinating range of colour that will create light and warmth in the home. Crisp white will accentuate the feminine allure of the pearlescent decor and is great for smaller or more compact homes. Deep and elegant black painted designs and sleek glass items will add a contrasting yet complimentary air of Hollywood glamour to your home interior or for a splash of period style elegance then choose French carved, silver leaf items that will create a shimmering focal point in  any room of the home.
