Colour Trend – Obsidian

Deep and dark colour schemes are set to be a huge favourite across both designer and high street stores this year with a range of colour palettes that create a rich and moody ambiance in any room of the home. OBSIDIAN is a perfect colour choice for this trend as its rich and glossy black finish will compliment both modern and traditional styles of interior. It can be paired with other rich hues for a dramatic look or contrasted with more neutral shades for a balance of light and dark.

For a classic pairing of light and dark then partner obsidian with crisp and fresh brilliant white or antique white to create a classic monochrome home interior that is perfect for creating a sleek and sophisticated look within the room. This can be paired with a simple striped or geometric patterned wallpaper for added visual impact. If you prefer a more tonal interior look then why not partner obsidian with dove grey, charcoal and pewter or deep diver blue palettes for a stormy finish that can be further accentuated with a tree or watercolour patterned wallpaper in co-ordinating colours. For a more delicate take on this colour palette then add some soft dusky and pastel hues such as pink, blue, mint or lilac that will create a feminine twist when teamed with a classic floral wallpaper.

If you have a plain or minimal room then adding some obsidian coloured soft furnishings will be a great way of creating visual impact within the room. A set of shimmering obsidian satin or velvet curtains will compliment a glamorous interior space and can be accentuated with gold or silver tie backs for added opulence and luxury. A scattering of obsidian and white cushions will look great on a white, black or grey seating area or bed and can be complimented with some grey faux fur or silver satin cushions, a grey shag pile rug and an obsidian satin or velvet throw for a rich and cosy finish that is bang on trend this season.

White painted or high gloss furniture makes the perfect partner to an obsidian colour scheme as it balances out the rich and deep coloured walls and fabrics with a soft and bright focal point within the room. Opt for simple and streamlined high gloss designs for modern or minimal homes or classic country or French carved items for a more traditional look and finish. Matt black painted furniture will add an obsidian twist to a neutral or white interior space and will create a striking focal point if you select a statement item such as a wardrobe, dining table or dresser. For a softer yet tonal finish then you could select some grey painted furniture items that will create a cosy yet elegant finish with a hint of Nordic charm.
