Colour Trend – Magenta

We have come over all girly and romantic this week in the lead up to Valentine’s Day and to celebrate we are taking a look at the bright and feminine MAGENTA interior colour trend. This bold yet elegant colour choice can be adopted into both modern and classic home interiors for a fresh and uplifting ambiance.

The vivid tones of magenta can be partnered with both deep and light colour schemes and looks fabulous in funky living rooms and boutique bedrooms for a glamorous and flamboyant look.

Colour Schemes

Magenta is a versatile tone that can be partnered with a vast range of colour palettes for a sophisticated and bold interior feel. This vivacious colour looks particularly striking against deep black for an opulent and eye-catching look that works particularly well in bedroom areas due to its dramatic glamour and feminine flair. For a more eastern inspired feel that partner your magenta hue with jewelled tones such as purple, orange, yellow and blue that gives a Moroccan inspired interior feel that is bold yet elegant in appearance. Crisp antique white with magenta accents will look striking in a living room or dining room area and gives a bright and airy feel with a pop of colour intensity. The purple/pink tones of this bright colour shade can also be partnered with metallic silver for a flamboyant and luxurious finish.

Cushions

If you want a simple ‘pop’ of colour in your already decorated home then try out your new magenta colour scheme with a scattering of cushions along your sofa, bed or seat. This simple and cost effective idea will add visual detail and impact against plain fabric and can be mixed and matched to create a contrasting yet complimentary look. Simple cream and white cushions with bold magenta patterns will look great on a neutral sofa area with bold floral designs or geometric patterns working well to give a classic or contemporary interior look. For a vibrant Moroccan ambiance then combine bold magenta cushions in silken fabrics with other vivid coloured cushions and adorn them with metallic tassels, beads and embroidery for a cosy yet eye-catching space. For a unique and relaxing reading area, arrange your bold coloured cushions along a floor space or alcove area for an eastern inspired floor seating area that works wonderfully in conservatory spaces.

Upholstery

Bold and vibrant upholstery is bang on trend this season and can be used to create both modern and retro interior looks within your home. A luxurious chaise lounge with silver or black painted frame work will look divine when upholstered with a magenta velvet fabric for a period style feel with a hint of contemporary flair. A bright magenta tub, egg chair or bean bag will create a classic 1960s feel that is elegant in appearance but fun in style. If your prefer a more minimal look in your interior space then select some sleek stools or crisp white plastic seats and upholster them with simple magenta linen seat pads that will give a zoned area of colour against an otherwise neutral backdrop.

Accessories

Home accessories are a great way of adding colour to your interior and can be grouped together on specific items of furniture or plain painted walls for a punch of colour that is complimentary yet contrasting. Bold and vibrant lamp shades and ceiling pendants look great against a deep black or white painted backdrop and create a focal point within the interior space. Partner your lamp shades with plain black, white or metallic silver bases for a splash of glamour and opulence. Magenta vases and ceramics look fabulous adorning a mantelpiece, sideboard or windowsill and can be used alongside other complimentary coloured items as well as clashing neon tones for a fresh and flamboyant centrepiece.

Furniture

Painted furniture items look fabulous alongside bright and eye-catching coloured decors and create a balance of neutrality and flamboyance in any room of the home. For a bright and fresh appearance then select white painted furniture items that will tone down the use of colour and create a sense of openness and femininity within the home. For a slightly more glimmering and illuminating look then choose silver painted items that will create a glamorous atmosphere that is flamboyant and luxurious. Black painted items make a striking contrast against a deep magenta feature wall but should be used sparingly to prevent the room looking dark or overcrowded. Select a statement item such as a dining table or dresser that will take centre stage within the room.
