Colour Trend – Liquorice

Halloween presents the perfect time of year to try out darker and more adventurous colour schemes within your home. Deep black and grey colour tones look fabulous in a wide range of interior designs and this season is all about rich and sophisticated LIQUORICE colour palettes that will create a chic and glamorous look in any room of the home. This blend of smoky grey and soft black will create a striking focal point in your home and can be used as both a feature and accent colour hue.

Colour Palette

The deep and rich tones of liquorice make it the perfect partner to a vast array of complimentary tones. If you like the simplicity of monochrome interiors then a partnership of tonal liquorice and white or cream will make a great alternative to the traditional sleek black and white combination. This smoky colour choice can also be given a soft and feminine touch by marrying liquorice with soft dove grey and pastel and chalky pinks and blues that look particularly great in a bedroom or living room interior. For a more autumnal feel then opt for cosy orange, mustard or purple tones that work well with liquorice colours and will give a pop of colour that counter balances the dark hues to give a cosy get inviting interior space.

Cushions

Dark Cushions are a great way of adding visual depth and texture to a plain sofa area or bedding set. Liquorice tones will look great on a plain white seating area in a minimal home to give a sleek and contemporary interior look. For a more textural feel then select faux fur or knitted cushions in a rich liquorice colour that is perfect for the colder months and looks warm and inviting next to rich cream, russet and orange designs in soft linen or woollen fabrics. For a more sleek and sophisticated look then select Baroque or Rococo liquorice prints or marble patterns or opt for a feminine touch with some floral or leaf print designs.

Upholstery

While black is still an increasingly popular choice for your home upholstery a slight variation in tone can create a richer and cosier feel to your chosen interior space. Liquorice coloured upholstery can be partnered with a wide range of complimentary colours and patterns and will look fabulous in a wide array of classic and contemporary rooms. For a striking focal point in a neutral cream or white living room, opt for a liquorice coloured sofa, occasional chair or dining chair set that will look great with a black or white painted framework for added co-ordination. Bold floral patterns, rococo designs and geometric prints also look great in liquorice and white colour tones and can be accented with brighter colours in smaller interior spaces.

Accessories

With Halloween approaching this weekend there are a large array of black, grey and liquorice coloured home accessories available on the high street (and they don’t all have to be tacky or spooky). A fabulous liquorice coloured candelabra will look wonderful in the centre of an autumnal dining table and will make a perfect centrepiece for a seasonal dinner party. You can display a selection of miniature pumpkins and squashes around the base for an added autumnal touch. Liquorice coloured photo frames, vases and ornaments will create a focal point on a mantelpiece or sideboard and can be partnered with white, glistening silver or gold as we head into the Christmas season.

Furniture

A selection of black painted furniture will look great in a liquorice home interior or for a softer tone you can up-cycle your current items with a rich liquorice paint finish. To avoid your home looking too dark or overpowering then try selecting single statement items in this dark colour tone, such as a large dining table, dressing table or display unit that will create a single focal point within your chosen room. Crisp white painted furniture or cream painted designs will work wonderfully with this deep grey colour tone and look particularly complimentary in smaller or more compact home interiors. For a more flamboyant and lustrous look then select silver or gold painted items that will give renaissance style elegance to your chosen room.
