Colour Trend – Ginger

Mediterranean colour schemes work wonderfully this time of year as they provide a sense of warmth and cosiness that we associate with sunnier climates. Spice inspired tones are perfect for creating this holiday inspired ambiance and GINGER tones are one of the biggest colour choices for 2016. This rich orange/brown tone is refined yet bold and works really well in both neutral and bright interior decors.

Colour Palette

To recreate a classic Mediterranean interior look then partner ginger with soft sand, beige, mocha and mustard tones that will give a subtle yet rich finish that oozes warmth and homeliness. For a more exotic Moroccan inspired design then place ginger and terracotta hues alongside bold and bright blue, emerald, purple, pink and orange and add hints of metallic gold or silver for a more glamorous and luxurious finish. If you wish to create a fresh and zesty look then pair ginger tones with lime green and lemon tones or add dusky mauve, peach or mint for a more refined English country garden design.

Cushions

Spiced colour tones work really well on cushions as they not only provide visual colour but tactile and inviting cosiness that is perfect for updating a seating or sleeping area. Select simple linen or cotton covers with creamy beige and ginger tartan or striped patterns for a classic cosy look that is perfect for more county inspired home interiors. For a celebration of Mediterranean style then opt for cream, ginger and sunset orange cushions with Greek key or Italian and Spanish style patterns that look great against a plain upholstered backdrop. If you are feeling more flamboyant then take inspiration from eastern interior design with satin and velvet cushions in ginger, peacock blue, purple, pink and blue with metallic embroidery, beads and tassels that will create a sense of opulence in your chosen room.

Upholstery

Warm upholstery tones make a fabulous alternative to more neutral creams and beige as they create a zoned area of colour whilst still maintaining a soft and refined finish. Ginger coloured cotton fabrics look great on retro inspired sofas or egg chairs to give a vintage 1970s style design that is funky and stylish. For a more classic look then opt for ginger coloured soft leather that will look amazing on a large sofa or a set of modern chrome stools and also makes a fabulous statement on a button style headboard. Classic oak dining table chairs with ginger upholstered seat pads will give a cosy country cottage feel to your home while more eye catching occasional chairs can be upholstered in Moroccan style fabrics that will create a glamorous and exotic feel in your interior space.

Accessories

If you love rustic Mediterranean homes then a selection of terracotta home accessories will give a natural and cosy look to your chosen space that will compliment the neutral and spicy tones of the decor. Select large terracotta urns that can be placed in the corner or the room with indoor shrubs or palms that give a subtle yet eye-catching focal point in your room. Earthenware crockery, ornaments and accessories will look great displayed in a large natural wood dresser to create a welcoming country style finish. For a more modern look then add another of 2016s biggest trends; copper accessories, to your ginger interior decor. Copper effect light fittings, photo frames, table settings and candle holders will look great in a spice coloured interior space and will also compliment the metallic accents of a Moroccan home interior.

Furniture

Solid oak furniture items are the perfect choice for completing your ginger colour scheme as the warm and textural grain will compliment the spicy tones of your chosen decor. This classic choice will create a timeless look that works particularly well in living and dining room areas. For a more Mediterranean inspired design then opt for chunky walnut or mahogany items that will create a rich and cosy feel in your interior space. Eastern inspired items with gold and silver gilding are perfect for those wishing to add some luxury and glamour to their home and make a striking feature in a living room or bedroom area. For a more classic finish then select some cream painted furniture items that will compliment the warmth of the interior backdrop and will give an uplifting homeliness to country inspired homes.
