Colour Trend – Denim

While jeans and Jackets may be taking over the catwalk this winter, DENIM colour palettes have been a major feature in the interior design world with an array of indigo and soft blue tones making their way into both modern and classic home interiors.

From fun and quirky upholstery to eye-catching paintwork and furniture designs, this simple yet stylish colour choice will create colour and texture in any room of the home.

Colour palettes

Denim is a versatile and simplistic colour tone that can be partnered with a wide range of palettes for both modern and traditional results. Strong indigo denim colours look great when partnered with crisp white in modern interior settings but can also be married with more subtle denim hues for a classic and period style feel. Soft beige can also look lovely alongside strong denim tones as well as muted dove  grey and pewter colour palettes. For a fresh springtime ambiance then choose an uplifting pale denim and an antique white partnership that will create a light and airy feel that looks particularly elegant in dining rooms, living rooms and bedrooms.

Cushions

Denim cushions are a great way of introducing colour to your home in a simple and cost effective manner. Indigo denim tones look great with subtle cream and white and can be used as plain cushions or a combination of designs in floral patterns, Wedgewood or geometric prints. Cosy knitted cushions are hot on trend this season and give a particularly Nordic feel when used in an array of light and dark denim colours tones. For a unique and quirky look in more contemporary home interiors then try your hand at some up-cycling by taking your old jeans or denim jackets and transforming them into some cushion covers for your home. Choose a single denim tone for each cushion or create a patchwork design using swatches from different textured and coloured jeans.

Upholstery

Denim coloured upholstery will create a colourful yet cosy area with your chosen interior and can be easily accommodated into minimal or neutral decors as well as more bolder colour schemes. A dark denim coloured chaise lounge or occasional chair will add a pop of colour to a crisp white or cream interior and looks particularly striking against a crisp white painted or natural oak framework. Soft and cosy sofas look great in both bold and more classic denim blue hues and can be partnered with floral pattern designs for a more dainty and feminine interior feel. Once again if you are feeling crafty then why not recycle some worn out jeans and use them to create an individual stool or seating design that is unique and visually stylish.

Accessories

Pale blue and indigo coloured ceramics and light shades will look great adorning a mantelpiece, windowsill or sideboard and will add an area of colour against a plain or painted feature wall. Blue tinted glassware is also an effective way of adding just a hint of colour to more minimal and contemporary spaces without overpowering the sleek and simplistic finish. For a more classic interior feel then why not select a collection of sophisticated Wedgewood style crockery and accessories and display them in a crisp white painted dresser for visual detail that will create a homely country cottage style feel within your home interior.

Furniture

The versatility of Denim colour tones means that it they can be partnered with a vast range of furniture styles and colours for a selection of different finishes and looks. Traditional oak furniture will create a warm and cosy feel against both indigo and pale blue denim tones and creates a sophisticated yet rustic feel in any room of the home. Swedish Blue, Crisp white and cream painted items will create a classic country cottage feel that is perfect for creating a shabby chic style interior design. Sleek mirrored furniture will compliment a minimal and contemporary interior and looks fantastic when partnered with dark indigo colour palettes for a contrasting yet complimentary look. For a splash of glamour then opt for sparkling silver or bold black furniture items that will create an air of flamboyant regency style that looks particularly striking in a living room or bedroom setting.
