Colour Trend – Custard

I’m quite partial to a gooey custard tart or some hot apple crumble with a puddle of custard that is thick and creamy and full of naughtiness.  This classic British dessert accompaniment has become one of this year’s favoured colour tones for transforming our home interiors. With its rich and creamy palette and hint of uplifting lemony tones a CUSTARD interior colour scheme will create an air of rich and sumptuous luxury in both modern and classic home designs.

Colour Palette

This soft yet zesty colour tone will look fabulous alongside a wide range of neutral and bold colour palettes. For a fresh summery look then partner your chosen custard hue with blue, mint green and peach to create a sorbet inspired home design that will add a light and uplifting ambiance to your home as well as proving a hint of tropical energy. For a more refined and sophisticated look then partner custard with monochrome, pewter and dove grey for a chic and elegant finish that will look fabulous in modern living room and dining room areas. If you prefer a more warm Mediterranean design then partner your chosen custard tone with rich terracotta, honey and orange tones that will create a cosy and relaxing ambiance within your home.

Cushions

Coloured cushions are a statement trend this season and they provide a simple way to introduce a new colour scheme into your home without the need for complete redecoration. Yellow tones are a great way of adding a light and sunshiny feel to both neutral and dark backdrops and can be partnered with plain and patterned design for an eye-catching focal point against a sofa, chair or bedding set. Custard, crisp white and cream make a fabulously elegant combination that can be displayed in period and floral print designs for added visual variation. For a more modern look then select grey, custard and black cushions that will give a masculine edge to this feminine colour palette. Choose geometric or baroque prints that will illustrate the distinct contrast in tone. If you prefer a more unique and fun finish, take a look at this fabulous custard cream cushion (right) that creates the perfect backdrop for a spot of afternoon tea.

Upholstery

Custard coloured upholstery makes a versatile and stylish addition to any home interior as its subtle yet colourful tones provide an air of elegance and sophisticated within your home. An elegant French carved occasional chair will look fabulous in a chateau style, linen floral fabric with accents of custard and cream for a rich and cosy look and texture. The exterior of the chair can be left in a natural oak finish for a cottage style look or painted with light and bright white or deep and glamorous black for a varying style and design. A large and striking headboard will look fantastic upholstered in a cosy custard fabric and will look great against a neutral or bold painted feature wall. For a more minimal and modern look upholster a simple cubic style sofa with custard and grey cotton fabric for a bold and slightly Nordic look and finish.

Accessories

A selection of custard coloured accessories will instantly create a light and bright summery ambiance in any room of the home. Custard yellow vases, bowls and ornaments will sit comfortably against a natural oak or painted mantelpiece area or a large rustic dining table for a pop of subtle, creamy colour. You can add a selection of ivory and yellow flowers to your vases featuring classic summer blooms of daisies, roses and gypsophila for a fabulous focal point that is bold and elegant. Custard coloured kitchen accessories will look great in a classic shabby chic interior decor and will add some cosy colour to a plain wooden worktop or a classic white dresser for a visual centrepiece within the home. If you have concentrated your custard colour tones to your walls and furnishings then opt for classic white or cream accessories for an uplifting look and feel or choose deep black or navy that will create an air of glamour and refinement that looks particularly striking in bedroom and dining room areas.

Furniture

The subtle warmth of custard colour schemes means that they blend seamlessly with a wide variety of furniture materials and colour choices. For a typical summer cottage design then select natural oak furniture items that will compliment the rich cosy tones of the yellow backdrop and create a relaxing ambiance within the home. For a more elegant and feminine finish then partner your custard decor with soft grey or crisp white painted furniture items that will create a sense of space and light in more compact interior spaces. If glamour and opulence is more your thing, select deep black painted furniture items with classic French style carvings that will give a designer boutique look that gives a high end finish to your living spaces.
