Christmas Crafts for Kids

We are all busy being helpful little elves his time of year and sometimes it can be hard to keep the children busy when we have a million thing to try and do. So why not keep them occupied and get them involved in the festive fun with some cool XMAS CRAFT ideas that will be sure to put a smile on their faces:

Paper Chains

Yes, they are one of the most simple crafts to undertake this time of year but while simple, these paper chains are pretty and effective and will allow the kids to have some of their own input into your festive decorations. Take some simple white paper and fold in half, then again and again and then place the card so that the fold is on the right-hand side. Draw a snowflake design in pencil and then cut out your design ensuring that the folded side is left intact. When you unravel you will have a gorgeous snowflake pachain that can be hung anywhere in the home.

Christmas Log Faces

Take some circular cuts of log and a set of paints, brushes, glitter, felt and pomp poms. Paint the flat circular area of the log white for a snowman or pink for Santa or his elves. Then use brushes to paint on some faces and finish by creating, hats, scarves and beards using felt and pomp poms. You can even add a sprinkle of glitter for added festive sparkle. You could also create a hole at the top of the logs and add some twine so they can be hung from the xmas tree.

Christmas Cookies

Baking is a great way to create some fun and to get the little one’s hands dirty this Christmas. Cookies are a simple and easy bake that kids of all ages will enjoy helping with. Take your ingredients:

  1. 225g caster sugar.
  2. 300g plain flour (sifted)
  3. 200g of butter melted.
  4. 1tsp vanilla extract.
  5. 1tsp of baking powder.
  6. A pinch of salt.
  7. 1 egg.
  8. 100g-200g chocolate bar or chocolate chips (if you want to make them as chocolate chip biscuits)

Mix the sugar and melted butter in one bowl and the flour, baking powder, salt and vanilla extract in another bowl. Add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and then add in your chocolate chips. Now here is the bit that the kids will love…Get their hands in the bowls and squish and mix together the ingredients. Finally when it comes together in a bowl add the egg and knead again using their hands!

Roll out the mixture and get the kids to cut out some festive shapes with some cookie cutters. Place the shapes on a grease proofed baking tray and cook at gas mark 3 for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
